WMU music major Andrew Theehs is a DIY Spotify artist, and he’s hoping to follow the path of successful recording artists such as Chance the Rapper and Saba, who also started as do-it-yourself artists.
Andre Awad, another WMU student, works with Theehs as a DIY producer. Spotify’s numbers indicate that the number of artists gaining recognition on the app is growing. DIY artists don’t use professional resources to produce and distribute their own music and gain 100% of the royalties they make from streams.
