Over the past few years enrollment at Western Michigan University has been decreasing drastically. In the past year the university lost 1,092 students in enrollment which is a 4.8% decrease, according to data put out by the university. The university had 22,562 students enrolled in fall 2018 and 21,470 students enrolled in fall 2019. Some of the reasons enrollment is decreasing is because of tuition costs increasing at the university and WMU having a hard time competing with other schools similar to them such as Grand Valley State University and Michigan State University.
