Throughout Southwest Michigan, there are various efforts to feed children living with food insecurity. Over 9,000 children in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, are food insecure, according to Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes. Food insecurity is a lack of consistent access to healthy and nutritional food sources.
Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes is one organization that uses a weekend food pack program to send Kalamazoo Public School students home with food for the weekends. This profile focuses on another organization’s efforts to address childhood food insecurity in Kent County, Michigan. This is the story of Hand2Hand, a nonprofit organization that aims to end childhood hunger in a community, one bag at a time.
